VAMK and Novia have taken into use the restricted thesis collection in Theseus, in addition to the open collection. This means that printed theses no longer are handled in to the library after September 6th 2022.
The student chooses whether to upload the thesis to the open or the restricted collection. When storing the thesis in the open collection the pdf-file of the thesis can be accessed anywhere. Pdf-files of theses in the restricted collection can be accessed only within the networks of VAMK or Novia and from the search computers in Tritonia. The thesis metadata, including the abstract, is always available on the internet, regardless of the collection.
The student has the right to decide in which collection the thesis is uploaded.
A thesis is always a public document, available to all interested readers. This means that the universities of applied sciences are obligated to provide access to the thesis when asked. (Act on the Openness of Government Activities 21.5.1999/621).
VAMK and Novia Universities of Applied Sciences have signed the declaration of open science and both students and staff are encouraged to publish open access whenever it is possible.
