MOT Kielipalvelu renewed 03.03.2020

The MOT Kielipalvelu database has been renewed from 2020. The database has a new address and user interface, the contents have been updated, and the tools have new names.


MOT Kielipalvelu includes:

  • MOT Dictionaries: 29 dictionaries, both common language and special language
  • MOT Translation: a combination of machine translation and dictionaries, now including 23 language pairs
  • MOT Proofing: grammar and spell checker for English, German and French Finnish and Swedish will be added during spring.

The old MOT will be in use simultaneously, but it will no longer be updated. Part of the dictionaries and MOT Books are still in the old user interface, but will be moved to the new one during spring.

You can access the new MOT Kielipalvelu within the university network at https://www.sanakirja.fi/, remotely by logging in to Finna.

University users can also create their own usernames for the service with their university email address, see https://www.sanakirja.fi/korkeakouluille. More information on MOT’s website.
